Boutwell, Owens and Co., Inc. has made a future commitment, as of December 16, 2009, to purchase 100% of our energy needs for our manufacturing plants through wind power. We have partnered with Renewable Choice, to secure both wind power as well as carbon offset credits and we are in the middle of a greenhouse gas study to properly calculate our carbon footprint as we move towards our goal of carbon neutrality.

In addition, Boutwell has been solvent free for two decades running only aqueous coatings, is alcohol free in our pressroom and runs predomiantely vegetable based inks, all of which are good for the environment. We didn't just start this behavior with the recent green movement, rather we have been conducting business this way for two decades, because it is also safer for our employees. Some would argue that once you catalize solvent coatings that the packaging is safe, yet that view does not take into account the safety or health of all of those people upstream including the municipalities.

Boutwell has been a market leader in the manufacturing of packaging using environmentally friendly recycled paperboard and we are currently FSC and SFI registered to provide our clients with the very optimum in sustainability solutions.
